Just diagnosed?

When you are told that you have psoriasis, you may experience a range of emotions.  While you may be somewhat relieved that you now know what is happening to your skin, you may also feel a bit confused and even angry.  These feelings are normal and you are not alone.

In fact, psoriasis affects 1 in 50 people.  It is a genetic condition that affects the skin and/or joints.  It is not contagious.

For some, psoriasis can only be a mild skin irritation.   If you have moderate or severe psoriasis, you probably already know how profoundly this skin condition can change your life.

There is no cure for psoriasis although a variety of treatments exist that can help control this condition.  Some people with psoriasis may experience spontaneous clearing of the skin (remission).

Coping with psoriasis day after day can be frustrating.  So can the treatment.  Applying creams every day, avoiding factors that might trigger flare-ups, taking medications and dealing with side effects can start to seem overwhelming, especially if your psoriasis never really goes away.  But even though psoriasis may make you feel isolated, it is important to remember that you are not alone.  There are options and there is help.
